FAQs
What is PSYCHē?
PSYCHē is a group of therapists who are great at doing therapy AND at connecting you with the right therapist. Our network of licensed therapists across the country means you will be paired with a specialized and skilled therapist in your state. Because we have a reputation for holding therapists accountable and going above and beyond, you know you’ll be taken care of.
What is the first step?
The first step is to meet online with one of our expert therapists for a Formal Consultation Advisory. In this 60-90 minute meeting, you’ll share your background, what you’re looking for, what personality style you prefer, and anything else that might help us select the best therapist for you. We may have someone in mind, or we may need to do some digging, but regardless, our goal is to find the right one.
What happens after the Formal Consultation Advisory process is completed?
Once we’ve heard your history and preferences, we’ll suggest a therapist who is a good fit and help you coordinate a time to get started. Before you arrive, your therapist will be up to speed on all the information you shared during the appointment so you won’t have to repeat yourself. After your first meeting, we’ll check in with you to make sure you felt heard, understood, and want to move forward. If you feel like they are not a good fit for any reason, no problem. We will try again at no additional charge.
But why go to PSYCHē if I can schedule a therapist on my own?
Unfortunately, finding a skilled and likable therapist is harder than it should be. Too often, therapists accept clients simply to fill a gap in their calendar. When you are a client of ours, you can relax knowing we’ve done the work to ensure the therapist you see is a good fit. We select therapists in a way that no directory or online therapy platform does. Our in-depth screening process involves multiple interviews, role-plays, formal background checks, reference checks, and informal reputation searches. We check on you throughout treatment process to ensure you feel like you are making progress. With PSYCHē, you aren’t left to figure things out on your own.
What does PSYCHē look for in a therapist?
We find therapists who are good at what they do, are knowledgeable in their field, and aren’t weird, creepy, or flaky. Our therapists aren’t social media experts, entrepreneurs, researchers, or Ted Talkers. They’re therapists. And because WE’RE therapists too, we know what questions to ask to ensure they know what they're doing. They are Counselors, Psychologists, Neuropsychologists, Marriage & Family therapists, and Clinical Social Workers with different skill sets, hours, rates, and specializations, and they all have passed our rigorous screening.
How will you know what kind of therapist I need?
We know therapy AND therapists. During your Formal Consultation Advisory, our expert therapist will ask you very specific questions about your history, what you’re looking for, and what you’d like help with. Your answers will tell us a lot about what kind of therapist and therapy will likely be the most helpful. Unless you’re a therapist yourself, it’s hard to keep track of all that’s out there and what different therapists are like. You may think you just need someone to talk to, but maybe there’s a very specialized treatment that would get you better faster than you ever imagined! If you’re not sure whether you need CBT, DBT, or "just therapy" therapy, no worries—that’s what we’re here for.
What if I don’t like the therapist or I think we aren’t a good fit?
No problem. If the therapist we place you with is NOT a fit, let us know and we’ll try to make it right. No starting over from scratch, no telling your story over again, no awkward explanation to the therapist about why you’re quitting. We just re-pair you. Give us some feedback so we can find you a better fit, and we’ll get to work. Your new therapist will be brought up to speed on your situation and history before you arrive and we'll continue checking in to make sure we got it right.
Where are you located?
PSYCHē is headquartered in Nashville, TN and Boston, MA, but we work with therapists all over the country. If you’re looking for someone in your area, let us know and we’ll get to work.
Why don't you take insurance?
We don’t take insurance because we are able to provide better service without it. That doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t use your insurance and get some money back later. Just ask us for a “superbill,” which is a detailed receipt of services. You can send it to your insurance company to see what you can get back, or call your insurance company ahead of time to see how much they would reimburse.
How much are sessions?
Session cost varies from $250-$500 depending on the type of therapy and the expertise, licensure, and experience of the therapist. On average, our clients can expect to pay about $350 per session. Give us a call or email to find out more.
